Switching off isn’t always easy. Even when the weekend arrives, it can take time to truly unwind and step away from busy routines. That’s why more people are rethinking how they spend their time off, opting for shorter breaks designed to rest, recharge and reset.
At holidaylodges.co.uk, we analysed our lodge destinations across the UK to identify which offer the strongest combination of accommodation availability and wellness-focused features for a 48-hour escape. Our index found a clear frontrunner, with Cornwall (78.86) and Devon (73.86) achieving the highest scores, followed by Wales (66.31). Refer to our methodology section at the foot of the guide to see how we collated our results.
It also highlights a broader shift in how we relax. From hot tub lodges to slower, nature-led experiences, the modern weekend reset is all about switching off properly.
The fastest-growing wellness trends for a 48-hour reset

Short breaks aren’t just about where you go – they’re about how you spend your time once you get there. To understand what people are looking for in a restorative weekend away, we analysed UK search trends for popular wellness activities. Activities like sound baths (+182%) and saunas (+126%) have seen a huge rise in interest, alongside wild swimming (+56%) and breathwork (+45%). They’re simple, calming experiences that help you switch off without needing to do too much at all.
At the same time, more intense trends like ice baths are beginning to fall out of favour. Instead, it’s the quieter moments – being outdoors and taking time to pause – that are becoming the focus.
Together, these search trends suggest increasing interest in simpler, nature-led wellness experiences – making lodge breaks a natural fit for people looking to switch off for a weekend.
The UK's top destinations for a 48-hour reset

Cornwall and Devon achieved the highest overall scores, driven by their combination of large lodge inventories and strong availability of wellness-focused amenities. Cornwall (78.86) and Devon (73.86) lead the way, setting the pace for truly restorative breaks.
Looking beyond individual counties, Wales (66.31) and Scotland (52.45) also stand out in their own right. Both offer a strong mix of lodge availability and coastal access, and together these destinations make up a significant share of the stays in our study – a reflection of just how well suited they are to a slower, more restorative escape.
There’s a shared appeal across these locations – space, simplicity, and easy access to nature. Whether it’s a Cornwall lodge by the sea or a countryside escape, the right setting makes it easier to unwind.
Venture beyond the South West, and things start to change
Looking beyond the South West reveals a different side to Britain's wellness landscape, with the West Midlands emerging as a strong destination for a restorative weekend break thanks to its concentration of hot tub lodges, indoor leisure facilities and cosy accommodation centred around open fires.
The coast still plays a role – particularly for Norfolk and Hampshire – but it’s no longer essential. Inland locations like North Yorkshire and Shropshire show that strong amenities, natural surroundings and good lodge availability can deliver just as effective a reset.
Without the dominance of the South West, the market feels far more balanced, with great short-break options spread across both coastal and inland destinations.
What features make a 48-hour reset work?
While destination matters, it’s often the details that shape the experience. From hot tubs and cosy interiors to coastal surroundings, these features make it easier to slow down and properly unwind.
Hot tubs: the centre of modern short breaks
Campden Lodge
For many people, a reset now starts with something simple – stepping into a hot tub and switching off.
They’ve become one of the most popular features across the lodge destinations in the UK, with Oxfordshire leading the way (73.7% of lodges), followed by Gloucestershire (70%), North Yorkshire (69.4%) and Shropshire (69.2%). It shows just how closely this small luxury is tied to rest and recovery.
Cosy spaces
Lake Retreat
While hot tubs draw people in, it’s often the atmosphere that helps them truly unwind. Features like open fires and wood burners bring a sense of warmth and comfort, creating quieter, slower moments – especially in the evenings. In places like Essex, every lodge includes an open fire, while the Isle of Wight (45.8%) and West Sussex (66.7%) also offer strong provision.
Larger destinations bring a more balanced mix. Cornwall and Devon (31.3%), along with Scotland (27.4%) and Wales (29%), provide cosy touches at scale, helping create that relaxed, home-from-home feel.
Waterside breaks

There’s something about being close to water that naturally encourages you to slow down. Across the UK, coastal access remains one of the strongest drivers of a good reset. The Isle of Wight (87.5%), Cornwall (68.8%) and Hampshire (65.8%) lead the way for beach proximity.
Meanwhile, Herefordshire leads the way for waterside views (47.6%), with Scotland coming in second (43.4%), with a large share of properties with waterside views. Wales also offers strong coastal access (38.1%), particularly given its larger lodge inventory.
For even more splashing fun, Cornwall (32.0%), Shropshire (26.9%) and the Isle of Wight (25.0%) also score highest when it comes to having access to holiday lodges with swimming pools.

Methodology
This index compares 30 English counties, alongside Scotland and Wales, to identify destinations that offer the strongest combination of lodge features commonly associated with a restorative 48-hour break.
Rather than measuring visitor wellbeing or satisfaction, the index assesses the availability of holiday lodges and amenities that may help support a relaxing short stay, using data from holidaylodges.co.uk.
How the index was created:
For each destination, we collected data on:
- The total number of lodges listed on holidayLodges.co.uk.
- The percentage of lodges with a hot tub.
- The percentage of lodges with an indoor swimming pool.
- The percentage of lodges with a swimming pool
- The percentage of lodges with an open fire or wood burner.
- The percentage of lodges with spa facilities.
- The percentage of lodges located within 5 miles of a beach.
- The percentage of lodges offering waterside views.
Each metric was converted to a standardised score between 0 and 1, allowing property counts and percentage-based measures to be compared on the same scale. These scores were then combined to produce an overall index score out of 100, with higher scores indicating a greater availability of lodge features associated with a restorative short break.
Where an amenity isn’t listed for a property, it has been treated as being unavailable for the purposes of the analysis.
Weighting:
To reflect both accommodation choice and the availability of key amenities, the index was weighted as follows:
- Total number of lodges – 30%
The total number of lodges was given a higher weighting to reflect the overall availability of accommodation in each destination, while each amenity was weighted equally to represent its contribution to the overall experience.
Wellness trend analysis
Alongside the destination rankings, we analysed ten wellness activities commonly associated with short breaks, including sound baths, saunas, wild swimming and breathwork using Google Trends and Keyword Tool.
For each activity, we collected:
- Average monthly UK search volume
- Three-year percentage change in search interest
- Related and breakout search queries
- Commonly reported benefits and considerations based on publicly available sources
This analysis was used to identify changing consumer interest in wellness experiences and is intended to provide context rather than measure the effectiveness of any activity.
All data was collected on 4 June 2026 and represents a snapshot in time. Rankings may change as property listings and available amenities are updated.
