“We were very fortunate to have a week of sunshine, but I think even without it would be a lovely place to chill out, gazing at the view and watching the seals in the loch. We didn't see otters, but did see a sea eagle from our front step. Brilliant week. Hopefully, we will return. “

This rural retreat can be found in the magnificent Black Mountains close to Hay-on-Wye. Relax on the decked porch set amongst the trees in an enclosed garden with a table and chairs for al fresco dining.

The property is set on a 17-acre animal farm sanctuary, so you can spot horses in the fields and book donkey experiences via the owners, which could include treks and grooming. There are wonderful walks and wild swimming opportunities nearby, and it's also a perfect spot for some stargazing.
